Cultural Shocks I Felt Between India and Iran – By Bita

Hello friends! I’m Bita, the Persian half of Indian Persian Couple. 🌸

After living in India for over two years and going back and forth to Iran, I’ve experienced many interesting and sometimes surprising cultural shocks. In this blog, I want to share some of them from my heart — what I felt, what I loved, and what surprised me the most.

💖 People in Both Countries Are So Kind

One of the first things I noticed in India was how kind and friendly the people are. When I stayed in villages, they invited me to festivals, offered sweets and fruits, and made me feel like part of the family. It touched my heart. 🥹

In Iran too, people are lovely. When Bhagwan visited Iran, the shopkeepers were so excited to see someone from India! They even gave him sweets to taste. It made me proud that both of our cultures are full of love and hospitality.

🗣️ Language Was Really Difficult at First

When I first came to India, Hindi felt very difficult, and even now I’m still learning. But since we live in Pune, I also picked up a little Marathi, which helps a lot!

In India, many people speak English, especially in cities, so I can manage. But in Iran, almost everything is in Persian (Farsi). For foreigners, it’s not easy to travel or talk to people.

That’s why I want to tell you about an amazing app I now use — Ezdubs! 💡

It helps me translate voice calls, messages, and even emotions in real time. It’s better than Google Translate and works in many languages. I use it whenever I travel or speak with someone who doesn’t know my language.

💳 Big Shock: India’s Digital Life Is Amazing

In India, even people selling vegetables on the street have UPI QR codes. You can pay with your phone — no cash needed!

But in Iran, this is not possible. Foreigners must carry cash, and international cards don’t work. No UPI, no online payment for tourists. When I first saw this difference, I was really shocked!

🏏 Cricket vs Football – Huge Difference!

Before coming to India, I didn’t understand why people were making strange hand movements while walking 😄… Later I found out — it’s because of cricket!

In India, cricket is everywhere. Kids play it in small spaces, and when there’s a match, no one is outside — all are watching!

In Iran, we love football. Parks have big football grounds, and everyone enjoys it. But now, even cricket is growing in Iran, especially in southern cities like Chabahar.

🎮 Childhood Games – Same But Different!

It was so funny when we found out that both of us played the same types of childhood games, but with different names.

Like India has Lagori (Seven Stones), and Iran has something very similar. It made me smile because it shows our cultures are different, but connected in many ways.

🍛 Food – India Is Heaven for Vegetarians

I am vegetarian, and for me, India is a dream. So many delicious dishes — pani puri, dosa, puran poli, paneer butter masala, dabeli… I want to eat everything 😋

In Iran, most people eat non-veg, and veg food is not very common. But still, we have tasty dishes like ash, falafel, adasi (dal), lubia (rajma). In big cities, vegetarian restaurants are now coming up, so it’s getting better.

💬 My Final Thoughts

Living between India and Iran has been a beautiful journey. I’ve learned so much, laughed, struggled, and loved every moment. Yes, there are cultural shocks, but they help us grow and understand each other better.
